Biography

Ralph Albert Cuomo (1929–2002) was an American artist whose work emerged from the dynamic artistic culture of postwar New York. His paintings and drawings reflect an engagement with the language of modernism and Abstract Expressionism, combining energetic gesture, expressive mark-making, and a sustained sensitivity to color, form, and atmosphere.

Cuomo studied at Columbia University, where he encountered the intellectual and artistic currents shaping American art in the decades following World War II. His work developed through a continual exploration of the relationship between observation and abstraction, often transforming recognizable subjects into increasingly expressive arrangements of line, color, and gesture.
